A young moose was put down by wildlife officers in Corner Brook late last week and one resident wants to know “why?”
David Wellon had noticed the young moose grazing on his fruit tree for the past few weeks and admits that the moose ate most of the tulips, but he enjoyed seeing the young animal come by. Wellon says some kids were taunting the animal and that’s when conservation officers showed up and euthanized young moose.
He phoned the local wildlife office to follow up but says they hung up on him. BAYFM News reached out to the Department of Fisheries, Forester and Agriculture. They wouldn’t commit to an interview but did issue a statement saying, “in the recent situation, the animal had to be euthanized after other attempts to safely deter the moose were unsuccessful.”
