Montreal celebrated the return of pro women’s hockey at the PWHL home opener at the Verdun Auditorium on Jan. 13.
Despite a disallowed goal and a 3-2 loss to Boston in over-time for Montreal captain Marie-Phillip Poulin, the inaugural game was a win for fans and players alike.
“Getting people still in the stands when you lose – it says a lot…Montreal is very special.” Poulin said in a post-game press conference. “Obviously you want that win, we went through a lot of emotion there.”
Shireen Ahmed, Sr. Contributor at CBC Sports, told CJLO ahead of the opener what sets this league apart. “That’s what sucks you in. It’s what sucked me in, is the calibre of hockey. It’s really excellent sport.”
