PALMERSTON – The woman who spotted the vandalism of Pride decorations in Palmerston is speaking out against the hate she’s seeing in the community.
Gayle Blackwell says she noticed the black spray paint on the decorative ribbons on Tuesday. Wellington County OPP says the mischief happened between June 9-10.
Blackwell says her son moved away from Minto because he didn’t feel he could safely come out as gay.
Blackwell also shared a screenshot of a Facebook post she believes is fueling the anti-gay sentiment in the town. Jan Johnson Finochio, who identifies herself in her bio as “Lead Pastor” at the Cross Roads Life Church pastor in Harriston, called for a boycott of all businesses displaying Pride decorations. The post (below) has since been deleted.
