Wilfred Laurier University (WLU) has begun it’s roll-out of a new free online indigenous course that is open to the public.
The course title “Introduction to Indigenous Matters” is a self-directed course that the university says can be completed in 6 to 8 hours.
Dr. Darren Thomas, Associate Vice-President of Indigenous Initiatives at Wilfrid Laurier University says the course focuses on giving individuals an opportunity to learn about Indigenous peoples’ experiences, history and culture, and to educate people on misconceptions and misinformation surrounding them.
Thomas says that so far over 600 individuals have signed up for the online course and the feedback from those participating has been positive.
He says WLU would like to expand and offer more indigenous courses that are open to the public in the future.
