White Pines Wellness Centre will have its elevator undergo maintenance next month, which has Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) concerned on how community members will be able to access its public health services.
Since April, many of the community’s health services have been moved temporarily to White Pines Wellness Centre as the Gané Yohs Health Centre building was closed due to mold.
SNEC CEO Nathan Wright says council is aware the elevator maintenance will cause “accessibility” issues for community members seeking services. He says SNEC is looking at alternative options to limit issues for community members during that time.
Wright says Council has been maintaining regular contact with Indigenous Services Canada, and the two organizations are working to provide temporary clinics that will offer each of the health services running from White Pines Wellness Centre enough space for operations.
Wright provided the update during the August 27 general council meeting.
