MP Dominic LeBlanc has been making headlines this week after his appointment to the position of Minister of Finance, replacing former Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland who resigned suddenly on Monday. In Sackville, the appointment has added significance since the new Finance Minister is also MP for the local riding of Beauséjour.
CHMA talks with Mount Allison politics professor Mario Levesque about the appointment.
Levesque says LeBlanc is “probably the most loyal member of the Liberal MPs that there is right now to the prime minister, and he will do whatever is asked of him by him.”
But LeBlanc’s tenure as finance minister, and also Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Safety, will likely be short-lived, due to the situation faced now by the Liberal party and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Levesque weighs in on the options, and LeBlanc’s future in politics.
