One Nanaimo high school has received some exciting news as the school year starts.
The Government of B.C. has announced it is adding six new prefabricated classrooms to Wellington Secondary School which will add 150 new seats to the school. The $9 million project will add six prefabricated classrooms.
CHLY attended the announcement outside Wellington Secondary where MLA for Nanaimo Sheila Malcolmson spoke about the importance of more student seats in Nanaimo.
Mark Walsh, Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District secretary-treasurer, spoke about the four potential locations for the expansion and the need to make sure the classrooms are still connected to the school community.
The new classrooms are expected to be ready by winter 2026.
