When the winter comes, many people will want to stay warm at home. Unfortunately, not everyone will have access to a safe and warm shelter. For a while, the Downtown Mission ran the only warming space in Windsor. With only one warming space, options were limited for those who were uncomfortable with the mixed-gendered space or unable to access the location. Furthermore, one warming space brought the concern that it could be full.
On Monday, December 18, the Windsor Welcome Centre Shelter for Women and Families opened Windsor’s second warming space and the first that is specifically for women.
CJAM spoke with Lady Laforet, the Executive Director of the Welcome Centre, about the new indoor warming space.
