Mādahòkì Farm, an Indigenous farm located in Nepean, celebrated the solstice and National Indigenous Peoples day by hosting a weekend long festival for anyone to attend.
The festival had events and activities for families, pow wows, and plenty of food. However, along with the festival came large bouts of rainfall and thunderstorm watches across the Ottawa region. Mādahòkì spokesperson, Trina Marther-Simard, says that they saw nearly a 10,000 attendee drop from last year’s festival, despite the wildfire smoke causing the festival to shut down early last year.
And wet weather and thunder storms affected the last day of the Escapade Music Festival, held at Landsdowne Park over the weekend. The festival also generated 38 noise complaints to the City of Ottawa over the weekend.
