The Alzheimer Society of Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland, and Haliburton, held an event in downtown Peterborough on Jan. 17 for Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. At the event, they announced two new educational initiatives happening at the local organization: an anti-stigma campaign and a virtual reality workshop.
The “Be the Missing Piece” advertisement campaign, an anti-stigma campaign created through a partnership with Fleming College’s Graphic Design – Visual Communication program, was announced. The campaign features photographs of local community members living with dementia.
They also unveiled the use of a virtual reality workshop, called “EDIE” (acronym for “Educational Dementia Immersive Experience”). The virtual reality experience simulates what it’s like to live with the symptoms of dementia. Community groups and organizations can purchase the 3-hour workshop to build awareness, and educate their team about Dementia.
