Tuesday nights are typically quiet at The Thirsty Moose, UNBC’s student-owned campus pub. But events far away turned that upside down this week, as the Political Science Club held its US election viewing party on November 5th. Despite the excitement felt amidst a number of attendees, the crowd seemed to bristle.
When asked about how they felt in the moment, several people cited fear and anxiety. One attendee said, “I have at least a glimmer of hope that it won’t be the worst possible outcome, but that’s maybe not hope. In a sense, that’s coping.” Referring to how the election might affect life in Prince George and BC, a young man stated, “We’re just doomed…” he paused before clarifying, “tradewise.” While clutching a pint, one student relinquished their perceived lack of influence over the situation, “At the end of the day America always wins. And that sucks.”
