Prince Edward County is a thousand square kilometer piece of land jutting out into Lake Ontario with some of the most unique and variable climate conditions in Canada. Weather can turn quickly without warning and road or ice conditions can change in an instant.
For the locals, driving can be challenging but for visitors unfamiliar with the County, it can be treacherous so being prepared is important.
The County is a major tourist destination with growing interest to visit throughout the year. Snowmobiling, ice fishing and cross country skiing are popular and with spring around the corner, hiking, fishing and boating start early. Several holidays are on the horizon, people will be on the move and keeping the public safe is the number one job for the OPP.
Community Safety Officer Aaron Miller from the Picton OPP detachment had plenty of suggestions to stay safe when visiting the County. He spoke to CJPE News.
