The Northern Undergraduate Student Society (NUGSS) operated foodbank on UNBC campus is facing an uptick in demand as grocery prices rise.
Office Manager Susan Cai is direct, saying, “With the cost of living and everything increased, there’s more demand for the food bank.”
Despite this, its donation drive is seeing support. Cai notes the donation boxes look quite full. “We are having to empty out a little bit just to keep room for more donations,” she told CFUR. Monetary contributions help to supplement items that are not directly donated.
Feminine hygiene products, diet specific items, international food staples are all in demand and short supply.
Donations can be made or picked up at the NUGSS office in the NUSC building on campus. Online contributions are welcome on www.nugss.ca/food-bank.
