This weekend, the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) hosted “Fentanyl, Facts, Family,” a symposium about the toxic drug crisis in British Columbia.
The event was labeled as a “community learning exchange,” with panelists, Q&A sessions and live performers.
“Fentanyl, Facts, Family” was open to the public and ran all day Saturday, Feb. 9, on the UFV campus.
“It’s critically important that people have a much better understanding of what this public health emergency is about. We’re entering the eighth year, and there’s still so much misinformation and disinformation,” said Kat Wahamaa, one of the event’s key organizers.
“The toxic illicit supply is killing people, and killed over 2,500 people in 2023.”
CIVL Radio spoke with Wahamaa and covered the event. Listen to the full story to hear more from Wahamaa and the many speakers and attendees, including about the changes that experts and community members agree are most important to reducing harm.
