The girlfriend of a fisherman in Lark Harbour is clarifying what she calls “misinformation” that the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) issued about a boating tragedy that claimed the lives of two fishermen on April 21.
The CCG release stated that “the Miss Jenny, a 23 foot open boat had capsized with 6 people onboard.” But Lindsey Swift says her boyfriend Markus Childs and his father own the Miss Jenny and they were the only two people on board when they noticed a fire coming from the beach so they issued a mayday call. A dory with two men onboard had capsized. Upon arrival, the fast rescue craft (FRC) from the CCGS Cape Edensaw recovered two deceased fishermen from the water.
CKVB News reached out to the CCG for a comment but was unsuccessful. CKVB News spoke with Bay of Islands MHA Eddie Joyce about the incident.
