Green Corners Farm near Edwards has had a complete failure of their u-pick tulip crop.
Earlier this spring the farm’s proprietors noticed some of the tulips were weak, distorted or spotted, symptoms of Tulip Fire, a fungus which spreads rapidly. They hoped plowing under 2/3rds of the crop would save the remainder, but in the end had to destroy their entire field of 500,000 tulips.
Co-owner Manja Bastian talks to CJRO about the farm’s future plans, including waiting several years before restoring the tulip crop, and forging ahead with other flowers available for picking later this summer.
