Every Dec. 6, Montreal mourns the 14 women who were killed in an act of misogynistic hate. In 1989, a lone shooter murdered a group of women students at École Polytechnique.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Premier François Legault were among those present at this year’s commemorative ceremony atop Mont Royal. Mayor Valérie Plante, who made headlines when she collapsed at a presser earlier this week, sent a representative in her stead.
After the ceremony, the Prime Minister was called to task by members of the public for his lack of action against the war on Gaza. The Gaza Health Ministry reports over 17,000 casualties; the Palestinian Authority’s health officials say 70 percent of those are women and children.
