Dozens of volunteers and staff of local public transit non-profit TransporAction Pontiac gathered a the Forest Inn in Bryson on Thursday evening for a dinner in their honour. This year, Guylaine Marcil, Lise Pleau, Linda Smart, Lois Smith and Gisèle Peck Beaudin were all recognized for 10 years of service.
The mandate of TransporAction Pontiac is to promote mobility in the region, especially for people who do not have access to a car.
The group’s Director General Sylvie Bertrand explained that they typically hold a supper every year as a way of expressing their gratitude to their 56 volunteers, who drive people from the community to things like medical appointments, or other necessary errands. The drivers use their personal vehicles, but are reimbursed for their kilometers and augment the organizations several busses and adapted transportation vehicles.
Bertrand said that they were always on the lookout for more volunteers, especially in certain sectors like the Municipality of Pontiac.
