A 44 unit women’s transition housing center and 24 hour child care center opened in Kitimat, BC on April 16.
The $19 million project is a partnership between the province, through BC Housing, the District of Kitimat and the Tamitik Status of Women (TSW) Association. The housing development provides child care and housing for women and children leaving violence and includes a transition house, second stage housing, and permanent affordable housing. The housing center and 24 hour child care center will be operated by TSW.
CFNR was on location and talked with both the past executive director Linda Slanina, who retired in 2020 but stayed on with this project, and Jordana Velho, the current executive director.
