Montreal is hosting its tenth annual Trans March this Aug. 3. Though the event overlaps with the two-week pride festival organized by Fierté Montréal, organizers want to make it clear that there are no ties between the two events.
The Trans March team put out a statement to their Instagram page last week announcing their “complete dissociation” with the larger festival, a decision organizers say was made unanimously. “Any ‘pride’ organization openly welcoming banks, conservative political parties, and war profiteers should be boycotted and shamed,” the statement reads.
Trans March organizer Ki’ra Prentice joined CKUT in studio to discuss.
When reached by CKUT for comment, a PR agent for the festival said that “Fierté Montréal is in communication with the various stakeholders” and will be holding a press conference later this month.
