Loyalist Township council approved $80,000 to fund the creation of a new master fire plan for the next 10 years at this week’s meeting.
Council approved $5,000 in the 2024 Operating Budget for an internal review and
update to the master fire plan. They are are now transferring $75,000 from the working fund reserve to complete the work.
Staff have recommended using a third-party contractor consisting of fire service professionals in different fire departments across Ontario, and possibly Canada. The report noted that master fire plans take hundreds of hours of work over many months and require a large amount of data research, comparisons, and engagement with multiple stakeholders.
The recently completed community risk assessment will be used for data collection during the process. Staff noted that creating and committing to a long-term plan is important for setting goals and executing the duties of the department.
