Loyalist Township staff will be working on updated policies and bylaws for community safety zones near Odessa Public School. According to the report from the engineering and environment division, staff and council heard from the public regarding safety concerns on North and Durham Streets in Odessa.
To address the concerns in the short term, staff are working towards the implementation of community safety zones, no-parking zones around the school drop-off area, and improved pedestrian crossing on Main Street. Staff will also be doing a road safety audit and traffic study.
In the long term, staff are looking at working with the school board to commence site plan amendments to improve traffic flow for drop-off and pick-up times.
Based on the speed assessments completed by the OPP, and a review of the accident reports, staff noted that speed does not appear to be a primary concern in the area.
