Loyalist Township will be applying for provincial funding to help complete the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre renewal project. At their October 8 meeting, council discussed plans for applying to both streams of the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF.)
Staff recommended making an application under stream 1 for the ice pad, boards, and glass, with a total estimated cost of approximately $1.5 million. They also recommended applying under stream 2 for the renewal project in its entirety. If the township is approved for both streams, and must choose one over the other, council decided they will remove their application for stream 1.
Staff noted that the renewal project aligns well with the objectives in stream 2, as upgrades could see the potential for investment and economic growth. These upgrades include the transformation of the existing facility, the creation of new programming, and accessibility improvements.
