Minto is taking centre stage in the provincial arts community by hosting the annual Supporting Performing Arts in Rural and Remote Communities (SPARC) Symposium for the first time.
SPARC will feature workshops to help local arts communities network, write grants and create partnerships. Gordon Duff, a member of SPARC’s board of directors and treasurer for the Town of Minto, says there will be performances, guest speakers and even a short film festival.
Maintaining an active performing arts scene in rural and remote communities comes with unique challenges. Duff says you have to work on a shoestring budget while also producing works that are meaningful for people in the rural area.|
Duff is hopeful showcasing the Town with a provincial event will draw more tourists to the area.
The symposium starts Thursday morning at the Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum and ends with a short film festival on Sunday.
