The McCord Stewart Museum has a new exhibition that pays tribute to Black women in Montreal between 1870 and 1910.
To All the Unnamed Women by artist-in-residence Michaëlle Sergile shines a light on the Coloured Women’s Club of Montreal – the first organization in Quebec to be created by Black women – as well as Black women from the museum’s photographic archives.
The work is part of an ongoing art-archival project for Sergile. She and collaborator Nancy Oliver MacKenzie will launch their website Black Samaritan, a Black Montreal archive, at the museum on Nov. 8.
To All the Unnamed Women runs at the McCord Stewart Museum until Jan. 12.
