With the unhoused population in Saint John having increased significantly over recent years, a number of projects are underway in an attempt to address the issue. One such initiative is the Sunnyside Tiny Homes project, being developed by United Way Maritimes.
United Way Maritimes, a charitable organization which aims to address societal issues and meet community needs, is hoping to begin construction in a matter of weeks, with the City Council soon to make a decision on rezoning for the site.
Local 107.3 FM spoke with Alexya Heelis, the Senior Executive Director for central and southwestern New Brunswick for United Way Maritimes about the project, its progress so far, and how the housing will be affordable for those who need it most.
