Migrant groups have been hoping for a regularization program to come this spring since Immigration Minister Marc Miller teased one last December.
But as the House of Commons prepares to go on summer break, it seems any such program will have to wait until the fall, if it’s to come at all.
Regularization would offer a path to permanent residency for non-status migrants living in Canada. The Migrant Rights Network estimates there are at least half a million people who fit that description.
CKUT speaks to Mostafa Henaway of Montreal’s Immigrant Workers Centre about the difference a regularization program would make to the people they work with.
