Throw rocks for 24 hours to help build a hospital. That’s what happened at the Prince Edward County Curling Club this past weekend as 162 participants from all over the region took part in the Curl-a-thon to raise money for the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Last year the club had a goal of raising $15,000.00 and they raised just over $51,000.00. This year the goal was $30,000.00 and with pledges, silent auction and a few other things, they raised just over $56,000.00 far exceeding their goal.
The Curl-a-thon was open to anyone and for newbies, there was an introductory night giving people the opportunity for hands on experience with throwing the rocks and sweeping. Bagpiper, Mark Ruban, piped the first group of players including senior members of the Hospital Foundation, and the games began.
