The Mount Forest Air Cadets Squadron 895 is under review and could be stood down. The organization received a probation letter in October that raised concerns about the area’s demographics, the number of students enrolled and the number of civilian volunteers needed to keep the 895 viable.
Debbie Fletcher, squadron director, says they have doubled their numbers since they received the letter and now have 21 students in the program. However, the search for volunteers continues.
The 895 asked Centre Wellington Council for $7,500 to cover advertising costs to help with recruitment but council only approved $1,000, suggesting they could help in other ways.
There are no special requirements to join the civilian arm of the squadron. Fletcher says the primary role of the volunteers is fundraising and the time commitment is minimal.
