The “Sultans of String” hope to showcase the work that’s been done with Indigenous artists’ on their album “Walking Through the Fire” when they host their Hamilton premiere next week.
Sultans of String’s Chris Mckhool said the project came from acting on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s calls to action to have non-Indigenous and Indigenous artists work together to show a path forward in reconciliation.
The album features numerous Indigenous artists, including Marc Merilainen, Crystal Shawanda, Leela Gilday and Shannon Thunderbird.
The June 9 concert at the Westdale Theatre will be a signature event of Hamilton’s Art’s week and will be in honour of National Indigenous History Month celebrated in June.
Mckhool hopes that Six Nations will be able to come out to support the event, as some parts of the album were recorded within the territory at Jukasa Studios.
