A team of eight fixers and menders offered free repairs of broken household items, small appliances and mending of clothing to the public at Prince Edward County’s first Repair Cafe.
The event, held in the Picton Library, was organized by Jozef Winter and Becky Lamb. People could bring their item and use available equipment to repair it, get help from the volunteers or let the volunteer fix it for them.
The Repair Cafe movement began in Amsterdam in 2009 by Martine Postma who had a vision of sustainability at a local level and recognized the need for the preservation of repair skills. Since then the Cafe has become an international foundation with locations across the globe including Belgium, France, Germany, Japan, India and many others that have joined the movement with the same vision of sustainability and keeping repairable items out of the land fill.
