Every two years, the Smithers Art Gallery in northern British Columbia hosts a secret artist project called the 6×6 sale. Anyone can purchase or make a canvas that is 6″ x 6″, take it home, and create a work of art upon the canvas.
The element of fun is that the works are anonymous and buyers bid on the pieces by what they like, not the name on the back of the canvas. This year, notable artists submitted pieces including Mark Thibeault, Michelle Gazely, David Harrison and Sarah Belford, but no one will know whose artwork they purchased until after the bidding is done.
Nicole Chernish, Director of the Smithers Art Gallery said this fundraiser helps to support programs that the Gallery runs such as art camp for kids.
Doors open for bidders at 7PM on Friday, October 11th and close on Sunday October 13th.
