Six Nations Elected Council is looking at creating a Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub in the community to fight against homelessness and mental health and addictions.
After banning supervised drug consumption sites within 200 metres of schools and childcare centres due to issues with safety, the Ontario government says 19 HART hubs will be opened throughout the province.
These HART hubs will focus on protecting public safety and ensuring that individuals suffering from homelessness and addiction will receive the proper support and treatment they deserve, according to the government.
Six Nations was not previously home to a consumption site, but was made aware that funding was set aside for two HART hubs to be established within Indigenous communities.
On Sept. 10, council said they will be applying to bring one of the HART hubs into the community.
