The changes to the Election Code was a major subject of discussion at the General Council meeting of the Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) on Tuesday January 23
Acting CEO Nathan Wright for the Office of the CEO gave an update which included next steps for the Election Code Committee (ECC). The ECC started looking into changes of the 2019 Code in 2022. Further changes were made from a community meeting in August of 2023.
The topic sparked a slew of comments and serious concerns from councillors in attendance. They questioned the roles, rules and process regarding how the ECC, the EC Review Committee and the EC Adhoc Committee conducted their business in relation to the Integrity Commission.
In response, Wright told Council that although motions had already been passed regarding the changes, he would bring back as much information to council as he could, but being new to the CEO role he noted “I’m just following along”, no other next steps were given.
