Brandon Montour, a 2024 Stanley Cup champion, was celebrated by the entire Six Nations community yesterday as the local NHLer was paraded through the community showcasing his recent accomplishment.
In late June, Montour became the first Six Nations community member to hoist the Stanley Cup after his team, the Florida Panthers, won over the Edmonton Oilers.
Thousands of community members gathered in the village of Ohsweken to show their support. In a press conference before the parade, Montour spoke on growing up on Six Nations and his hopes to inspire the community’s youth.
“I was a kid once and I grew up obviously idolizing players, not just hockey, but lacrosse,” he said.
“When you have one of your own or somebody that’s close to you – even if you don’t know me – reach this level and, especially, a day like today, it’s just a bonus for any kid growing up that wants to reach that level,” he added.
