At the April 9 council meeting, Sherbrooke elected members committed the city to financially support a new humor festival proposed by Christelle Lefebvre.
The festival, set to take place at the end of the summer in Parc Jacques-Cartier, will feature street entertainers alongside stand-up comedians.
Despite initial concerns from some councilors, the council approved a $230,000 investment in the festival. Councilor Berthold, satisfied with the investment, highlighted the potential return in television publicity valued at $500,000.
Councilor Gingues emphasized the need for an evaluation, especially given the change of TV networks from TVA to Noovo for the four television broadcasts.
The production, managed by Groupe Entourage, expects to host over 80 comedians and performers, including Jean-Pierre Beaudoin, a former organizer of the Fête du lac, serving as the local executive producer.
