Barbara Dallaire rents her RV trailer for $400 a month on private property just outside of Smithers, BC. Last month, she went to Vancouver Hospital for a surgery, which resulted in an infection, keeping her in the hospital for 3 weeks longer than anticipated.
Returning to the Bulkley Valley, she needed help finding someone to split her wood she needs to heat her trailer, healthy meals, and in-home care for her bandages. She tried to find this information on her own and found little help, reluctant contacts, or confusing answers.
Barbara is 75 years old, and has been waiting for a unit in seniors housing for over 3 years. She is on a very low income of meagre GIS and CPP cheques each month. She dreams of having running water, an inside washroom, and laundry machine.
She sat down for a talk with CICK News about her life is like without a functional home.
