It’s been more than a month since convenience store retailers have been allowed to sell alcohol to customers. While there are those who question the wisdom behind Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s move, many in Haliburton County appreciate the practicality of it in rural communities where LCBO hours are limited.
Lindsay and Todd Watling, owners of the Wilberforce Service Centre, in Highlands East, are one of more than 4,100 retailers selling alcohol in their gas and convenience store. They’re thrilled with the response by customers and the expansion of their business in their small, rural community. They see it as a positive initiative and many customers CanoeFM spoke to seem to agree.
