Phoenix Fest, an event organized by Terrace Pride Pals to celebrate Pride Month, is returning for a second year following last year’s pride prom.
CFNR spoke with Oli Sherrill, a volunteer for the Terrace Pride Pals and who is an organizer of the June 15 event.
Sherrill explains how the festival incorporates the theme of a phoenix rising from the ashes and encourages individuals to be true to themselves. It aims to create a safe and inclusive space for members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies, says Sherrill.
The event offers entertainment, activities, and opportunities for community engagement, including music, food, mask making, rock painting, games, and dancing. This year, the festival will provide information about the history of the LGBTQ+ community and resources like Transcare BC.
The organizers hope attendees will feel supported and accepted, and they aspire to continue celebrating and promoting LGBTQ+ acceptance in the future.
