Kelly Cove Salmon, which is owned by Cooke Aquaculture, has applied to expand its operations near Coffin Island and to add two new sites off Brooklyn and Mersey Point.
People had until Feb. 12 to submit their opinions to the Nova Scotia Aquaculture Review Board or request to make an oral presentation at upcoming hearings in Liverpool.
Seven people or groups are giving oral presentations at the hearings, including Bob Iuliucci and Betsy Hartt, who own Bear Cove Resources Stormcast Seaweed in East Berlin.
They say they’re worried about the effects of a four-fold increase in salmon and trout farming in the area, and the potential damage at the operations from increased tidal action because of climate change.
