Dayna Davis will retire on June 28 after 33 years of school teaching and the community is celebrating the local instructor’s legacy this week.
Davis got her start teaching on Quadra Island in 1985 at the Waldorf School, emphasizing that learning is constant, entrenched in community, and the arts are “woven” throughout.
“I’m a lifelong learner and I really think that’s what we’re as teachers meant to bring out in kids is lifelong learning,” she explains.
Students and community members will gather at Smelt Bay in a celebration of her retirement on Thursday, June 13 at 1 p.m. Despite her retirement, she does plan to be a substitute teacher at the Cortes Island School.
