GTA Victim Services Toronto (VST) has created an online symposium around issues that affect youth in the city, and they’ve consulted a wide variety of people to help them design the curriculum — including youth themselves.
The School Safety Symposium targets youth from Grades 5 to 12 and focuses on providing the resources online which teachers to give to students to educate them on multiple issues. It will be held in-class for students and online for everyone else on February 22.
The Symposium is part of the province’s Crackdown on Crime initiative with Toronto Police Services receiving $300,000 in funding in partnership with VST and the Toronto District School Board.
Jasminder Sekhon, VST Community Development Coordinator, says that there are several issues the symposium will focus on, with growing concerns of internet usage being a significant one. Another issue the symposium aims to tackle being around consent and boundaries.
Registration can be found on the VST website after making an account.
