In response to growing concerns by the community of North Russell in Russell Township, Mayor Pierre Leroux discussed the planned changes at the north end of Russell Township west of St. Guillaume Road.
The mayor says he is supportive on expansion of the industrial area, which, if expanded as he wishes, would take over prime agricultural land and surround the homes of rural residents on Eadie Road and Burton Road.
He states that the township needs the additional commercial and industrial tax base in order to avoid raising taxes further and to help pay for the planned recreation centre which is expected to cost between $88 million and $108 million.
