Uride, a ride sharing company, will get its subsidy again to subside the income of its drivers, thanks to a favourable vote at last week’s Prince Edward County Council meeting.
The original motion to renew the $30,000.00 subsidy was denied by council at the November 28th meeting, however, Councillors reconsidered and brought the issue forward to reassess.
The subsidy supplements the income of the drivers and is funded by the Municipal Accommodation Tax that is financed through tourism.
Uride became available in the County in 2022 with 5300 rides completed, a growth of 68 per cent year over year and has a five star rating with 99 per cent of the customers. Tourists are the main customer base but the service is quickly catching on to residents all over the County.
Deputations were presented in favour of the subsidy the Council voted to increase the amount to $40,000.000 and to revise the taxi bylaw.
