A local couple, Doctors Chris Compeau and Yvonne Buys recently received national awards for excellence in their fields of medicine.
Dr. Compeau has received the Distinguished Service Award from the Canadian Association of Thoracic Surgeons for his outstanding contribution to thoracic surgery in Canada.
Dr. Yvonne Buys will receive the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Ophthalmology Society for her dedication to patient care, education, research and innovation. Dr. Buys has received several awards during her 27 year career, but the highlight was the International Scholar Award presented to her in 2022 from the American Glaucoma Society. She was the first Canadian and the first female internationally to honored with that award.
They are proud of their remarkable careers dedicated to their patients and students but also have experienced first hand how short life is. So, they chose to take early retirement in 2020 and pursue a new life as hobby farmers in Prince Edward County.
