A group of senior managers from Correctional Services Canada hosted a public information session in Dorchester last night to announce the future location for a new Health Centre of Excellence that could serve up to 155 patients, including a small number of women.
About 25 residents showed up at the Dorchester Veterans’ Community Centre to ask questions about the security of the new facility, the impact it could have on local services like water and sewer, and the potential for the project to incorporate improvements to local roads.
Ward 1 Tantramar Councillor Debbie Wiggins-Colwell was there and said she felt the meeting was a good beginning, and that she hoped local tax revenue and roadwork would also figure into the conversation.
“It’s a lot to take in,” said Wiggins-Colwell. “I’d like to have seen more people out, but anyway, it’s a good start.”
