Joanna Green, President of the Wellington Community Association in Prince Edward County spoke to council on behalf of local residents and businesses who are concerned for the pending full closure of Main Street (Highway 33). Green, a retired Toronto police officer, conveyed concerns about the access to homes, emergency response, garbage pick up and, the ability for disabled residents to access transit.
She said that business owners were concerned about making it through the winter if customers are unable to drive the 15 kilometre detour around the closure.
As part of the new regional water/wastewater plan, the road closure is required in order to enable the installation of the trunk and sewer lines connecting to the new water towner.
