On Tuesday, July 2nd, the Sherbrooke City Council directed their focused to the Rock Forest Recreational Centre roof renovation project. Louis Nadeau, Director of Buildings for the city, identified problems like damaged metal cladding, ineffective air sealing, and low thermal performance.
Nadeau divided the center into four zones. Zones one and two showed metal cladding and air sealing issues, while Zone three faced significant problems with structural rust and an inadequate roofing system. Zone four, the gymnasium, had water infiltration issues and an inappropriate roofing system.
The council discussed three budget-friendly solutions prioritizing different zones. Council member Claude Charron emphasized maintaining Zone four’s sports-oriented purpose, while Annie Godbout highlighted the need for a relocation plan for community organizations.
The council agreed on addressing immediate roofing issues and devising a clear strategy for the building’s future use.
