The Government of Canada has mandated that federal civil servants should return to office work in downtown Ottawa at least three days per week. This policy has been slammed by the Public Service Alliance of Canada and welcomed by downtown businesses, but what about the rural areas which have benefited from workers staying close to home?
While the inner city wards may benefit from the federal policy, rural wards may not, and the municipalities surrounding Ottawa, including the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, have similar concerns.
CJRO speaks with Catherine Kitts who is the councillor for a ward on Ottawa’s eastern outskirts, with Glengarry-Prescott-Russell MP Francis Drouin who represents the riding immediately to the east of the City, and with CBC Ottawa traffic expert Doug Hempstead about the many issues affecting getting into Ottawa’s downtown.
