The Wooly Bully Races on Amherst Island are experiencing a large uptick in registrations this year. Race director Joe Du Vall noted with three and a half weeks until the races, they’re way ahead of any previous year. There’s no way of telling what the final total will be, but Duval says it’s encouraging.
More racers from farther away are registering this year too. Currently, the races have 35 registrants from areas including Ottawa, Montreal and the GTA for the Aug. 18 event.
The 10k race is included in the Kingston Road Runners annual series. Runners who have done the Howe and Wolfe Island races usually run the Wooly Bully Race as well to complete the Tri-Island series and pick up a medal.
This year, the 1K kids run kicks the day off, starting at 9:20 a.m. The 10k and 5K races will start simultaneously 9:45 a.m. All races begin at 600 South Services Rd.
